Friday Lunch with the Family

By Imed Sdiri

Last Friday, we had a big family lunch at my grandparents' house. My grandma and grandpa live in the countryside, so it's always a nice trip to visit them.

My aunt, uncle, and my two cousins, Omar and Ameera, came too. Omar is a teenager now, almost fifteen, and Ameera is ten. My mum, dad, and my younger sister were there, of course. It was a full house! Even our old neighbour, Mr. Abdulla, who is like part of the family, joined us. He doesn't have any family nearby.

Grandma is a fantastic cook. She spent all morning in the kitchen. Grandpa helped her. He prepared the vegetables from his garden. My uncle helped set the table in the dining room. Ameera, my cousin, drew pictures to put on the table as decorations. She's a good artist.

My dad and Mr. Abdulla sat in the garden chatting. Dad is a teacher, and Mr. Abdulla used to be a businessman, so they always have lots to talk about. My aunt, who is a nurse, helped Mum look after my little sister. Omar was playing a video game on his phone.

Lunch was amazing! We had roast chicken, French fries, salads, and lots of rice. Everyone talked and laughed. Grandma told stories about when Mum and my aunt were little kids. Grandpa asked Omar about school and his friends. Ameera told us about her science class. She wants to be a scientist when she grows up.

After lunch, the adults had coffee while the kids (me, my sister, Omar, and Ameera) played a board game in the sitting room. Omar won, but it was fun.

Later, it was time to go home. We all helped tidy up a bit. We hugged Grandma and Grandpa goodbye. It was a lovely day. Spending time with family – parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins – is really special. Even our friendly neighbour felt like a true member of the group.
