The Forest Trip Fail

By Imed Sdiri

Liam, Chloe, and Sam were very excited. They planned a hiking trip to the big forest near their town. They wanted to find the hidden waterfall everyone talked about. They packed their bags with snacks, water bottles, and cameras. It felt like a real adventure was starting.

The next morning, the sun was shining. They met early and walked towards the forest entrance. The trees were tall, and the air smelled fresh. Birds were singing everywhere. "This is going to be the best trip ever!" shouted Sam, full of energy. They felt happy and optimistic as they followed the main path.

After walking for about an hour, the path started to look different. There were smaller paths going in many directions. "Are we sure this is the right way to the waterfall?" Chloe asked nervously. Liam looked at the paper he had. "Hmm, the map isn't very clear here," he admitted. They tried to follow the signs, but they seemed confusing.

They walked for another thirty minutes, but things didn't look familiar. They couldn't see any signs for the waterfall. "I think," Sam said slowly, "we might be lost." Liam checked his pockets again for a better map or a compass, but he realised he had forgotten them at home. Just then, the sky started to get dark grey, and they felt a few drops of rain.

Suddenly, the light rain turned heavy. The wind began to blow through the trees. They were lost, and now it was raining hard. "Okay," said Chloe, trying to stay calm. "We need to be sensible. We should turn back before it gets worse or we get even more lost." Liam and Sam quickly agreed. Finding the waterfall wasn't important now; safety was.

Walking back was difficult because the path was muddy. They stayed close together and tried to remember the way they came. Finally, after a long time, they saw the forest entrance again. They were wet and tired, and very disappointed. Their big adventure had failed. "Next time," Liam said, "I will definitely remember the map *and* the compass!" They all learned an important lesson about being prepared.
