The Suffixes -s and -es

By Imed Sdiri

Hello everyone!
Today we will learn how to make words mean "more than one". We do this by adding a small part to the end of a word called a suffix.

Most of the time, we just add an 's'. For example, "one cat" becomes "two cats". But if a word ends with a hissing sound like /sh/ or /ch/, we add 'es'. For example, "one wish" becomes "many wishes".

Great job! Let's practice reading some of these words.‎

Words with -s:‎

cats
dogs
pens
bugs
hats
lips

Words with -es:‎

benches
wishes
dishes
brushes
clashes

That’s really great. Now, it is time to read a short text!

Chad has two dogs and three cats.
The pets sit on the benches.
Chad gives them lots of hugs.
He makes two wishes for his pets.
He will brush the cats with big brushes.
